Things to Do on the West Coast of Northland
From Lighthouse Lodge
Lighthouse Tour
We can arrange a tour
along the beach to historic Pouto Lighthouse. Approx 2 hours
Quad bike Tours
An experience you will never forget, the best way
to enjoy the true untouched natural wilderness of the white sand
beaches, huge sand dunes, pine forest and scenic reserve.
Time lengths are flexible to suit all ages, no experience necessary.
Farm Tour
See how a West Coast farm is managed. Explore
the beautiful fresh water lakes also on the property.
Claybird Shooting
With an experienced, licensed operator, either on the beach or the
farm.
Fishing
The Kaipara Harbour is the largest harbour in the
Southern Hemisphere and offers excellent fishing. Fish from the
rocks or beach right outside the Lodge! Bring your own rods and
bait (freezer space available), or if you prefer to have someone with
you to assist rods and bait are provided.
The Beach
We are situated at one end of the longest driveable
beach in the Southern Hemisphere, Ripiro Beach. It extends 100km
from Maunganui Bluff in the north to Pouto Point. There is heaps of walking, exploring,
swimming etc. Spend a day discovering ancient shipwrecks! Let us prepare a picnic basket for you to take
on your explorations.
Mini Golf (Pouto Style!)
This is possible on the adjacent
reserve. Some of our guests limit themselves to 2 clubs each and
judging by the laughter, really enjoy themselves.
Lazy Days
Relax and enjoy an ever changing vista across the Kaipara Harbour. Perhaps watch Gannets and Seals hunting and
basking in the sun from the decks of Lighthouse Lodge. Or soak
in the spa on the deck under the stars.
The Lodge also has a selection of indoor activities - Sky TV,
Stereo System, Board Games, Cards and a library including books about
local shipwrecks, history of Pouto, bird identification etc.
The Shipwreck Bar
Party or unwind at our casual bar or simply
relax with a quiet drink and the sounds of the sea.
